Driver Road Testing

When screening applicants for a driving position, it’s difficult to really know their true skill level. Licensing is not a tell-all, and unless you see applicants in action, you may have no idea if they can actually operate your vehicles safely. This is where a professionally conducted driver road test comes in.

J. J. Keller’s Safe & Smart® Driver Road Testing Service provides one of our expert driver trainers who will conduct a thorough and impartial road test of your new drivers’ skills.

How the Program Works

With this onsite driver test, we’ll manage the entire process, which includes:

Scheduling
Scheduling

We’ll coordinate a testing day(s) with your team. We can test up to 4 of your drivers every day for every trainer we send.

Road Test
Conduct Tests

A trainer(s) will travel to your location and conduct the testing using the vehicles your drivers will operate with on the job. This includes one-on-one time with each of your drivers for approximately 90 minutes each.

Results
Test Results

Upon successful completion of the road test, we’ll provide you with the records to add into your driver qualification files.

Road Testing Skills

Each road test requires your driver applicants to:

  • Perform a pre-trip inspection as required in Section 392.7
  • Couple and uncouple combination units (if applicable for your vehicles)
  • Place the vehicle in operation
  • Use the controls and emergency equipment
  • Operate in traffic and while passing other motor vehicles
  • Turn at intersections
  • Brake and slow by means other than braking
  • Back up and park
